Key December 2025 Tax Deadlines for Individuals

This month is crucial for finalizing your 2025 tax obligations, with key deadlines revolving around strategic year-end planning, tip reporting, IRA withdrawals, and settling deductible expenses.

December 1 - Strategic Year-End Tax Planning

December kicks off the last lap for impactful tax moves that might shape your 2025 tax outcomes. Whether you've experienced income fluctuations, marital or dependent changes, or significant property sales this year, it's prudent to book a consultation for personalized tax planning strategies. December 10 - Tip Reporting Deadline

Employees receiving more than $20 in tips during November must submit IRS Form 4070 to their employers by December 10. Employers are obligated to withhold the appropriate FICA and income taxes from these tips. Insufficient withholdings will be indicated in box 8 of your W-2, requiring payment upon filing your annual return.

December 31 - IRA Mandatory Withdrawals

To avoid penalties, those born before January 1, 1952, must schedule their required Traditional IRA withdrawals by December 31. However, individuals reaching age 73 this year (born in 1952) can opt to delay their first distribution until April 1, 2026. Ensure banks are open to process withdrawals before the year-end. Image 2
December 31 - Deductible Expenses Payments

December 31 is the deadline to pay deductible expenses pertinent to the 2025 tax return, excluding IRA, SEP, or Keogh contributions, which may be made after year-end.

December 31 - Be Proactive

For transactions requiring more than a day to finalize, it's advisable to start well before year-end due to potential financial institution closures.

Weekend and Holiday Extensions:

If any of these deadlines fall on a weekend or holiday, they automatically extend to the next business day.
